On April 24, 2025, we had the pleasure of hosting a special network meeting of the IHK accounting network at our Hallig Hanken. Our CTO Dr. Yvette Teiken showed together with Jens Büscher from Amagno GmbHshowed how artificial intelligence not only works in accounting and controlling – but also creates real added value.

AI in practice – not in theory

At erminas, we develop customized software solutions – with and without AI. We use artificial intelligence whenever it facilitates workflows, supports decisions or automates processes.

Our goal: technology must fit the company – not the other way around.

The network meeting was all about this: How can companies of all sizes make sensible use of AI – even without a large budget or specialist knowledge?

Concrete examples instead of buzzwords

In our presentation, we showed real use cases from everyday life:

  • Automate invoice processing
Incoming PDFs or emails can be automatically analyzed, relevant data extracted and transferred to accounting systems such as Microsoft Business Central.
  • Sales forecasts based on time series
Using an example camping equipment company, we analyzed seasonal sales trends – and how AI can help to plan stock levels and marketing.
  • Liquidity planning with risks such as payment defaults
Payment defaults fluctuate throughout the year. Using realistic scenarios, we showed how this can be used to create forward-looking liquidity planning – including fixed costs, personnel expenses and seasonal fluctuations.

Best of all, all of this can be done with simple tools such as Excel AI doesn’t have to be complicated.

Start privately, benefit at work

Many participants asked: “How can I get started with AI myself?” Our answer:
The best way is very pragmatic – e.g. with tools such as ChatGPT. Whether for writing texts, summarizing contracts or analyzing figures – if you try it out privately, you will understand more quickly where AI can help in your job.

Don’t forget data protection

Another important point was that AI must be used securely.
Clear legal requirements apply to accounting in particular. We showed what companies should pay attention to:

  • Do not share sensitive data with public AI tools
  • Check results – AI can (still) make mistakes
  • Train employees and clearly define responsibilities

Our conclusion: start small, grow in a targeted manner

Getting started with AI doesn’t have to be complex. On the contrary: with a clear goal, simple tools and realistic use cases, real benefits can be achieved quickly.

Our tip:

  • Start small projects
  • Analyze processes that are recurring and data-driven
  • Involve employees – many have more AI experience than expected
  • Thinking about data protection and compliance right from the start

We are delighted with the successful exchange with the IHK network and would like to thank all participants for the exciting discussions!
