Industrial IoT and Retrofitting

IIoT means Industrial Internet of Things. By linking plants, buildings and vehicles with Internet technologies and collecting and analyzing their data, they can automate, accelerate and streamline processes along their value chain, reduce costs and realize new business models. Even through retrofitting: a simple push-button can become an IIoT component that delivers valuable data.

Industrial Internet of Things

We design and develop Industrial IoT and retrofit solutions for the upper middle class. We analyze analog processes and find efficient digital solutions that also deliver data that can lead to new insights and thus new business models. No matter whether you are still looking for IIoT potential or already have a concrete task: With our broad technology and industry knowledge, we find the optimal Industrial IoT solution for your company. We accompany your project from the business concept to the technical realization. With our IIoT-Suite erIQ we provide an established multi-tool for the digitalization of your company.

Industry 4.0 does not happen in a Smart Factory on the green field. Most companies have a heterogeneous plant park with old and new plants. In order to become fit for the future and to take advantage of the economic opportunities offered by digitization, it is not necessary to replace the entire machine park: Retrofitting is an efficient solution to modernise digitally, gently and sustainably.

With our retrofit solutions you are in the position to gain data from your plants with economically sensible procedures that provide you with new insights and efficient interconnectedness, for example in warehouse logistics.

New data sources
  • Obtain data from modern plants via OPC-UA, MQTT, Modbus TCP (e.g. Siemens S7)
  • Data from any industrial bus systems and interfaces (e.g. Profinet, Profibus, ModbusRTU, CANopen, EtherCAT, Powerlink, Serial)
  • Data from plants with SPS systems without external interfaces

We provide you with a uniform, central basis for the evaluation of all data generated in your company from any source. Economically justifiable and efficient.

Every day, highly efficient new sensors come onto the market. We closely monitor developments and analyze the benefits, efficiency and costs of these components.

In order to find the right sensor for your application, we analyze local conditions, possible disruptive factors, potential data sources and other factors. Our standardized approach through requirements documentation, location analysis, sensor research, sensor analysis and sensor tests in our erminas-IIoT laboratory saves time and leads us as quickly as possible to the best solution for you, without having to interfere with your production.

We will find the right sensor, integrate it and, if required, one of our partner companies installs it for you. We are also happy to help to negotiate with the sensor suppliers. You can then purchase the sensors directly from the manufacturer. Because we want you to get the solution that is best for you.

Almost anything in your organization can be measured and transformed into data that provides the foundation for efficient process analysis. Our team of experienced data analysts combines data from sensors, databases and ERP systems and uses this data to develop the foundation for sustainable business processes – and possible new business models. Datasets are automatically updated, events are proactively detected or predicted. Discover your data potentials with us and use them for digital process optimization.

IIoT potential 1: manufacturer-independent modular combination of hard- and software

In the Industrial Internet of Things, people, resources and software solutions of companies communicate with each other. Everything can be combined with everything, regardless of manufacturer: PLCs, sensors, actuators, handhelds, smartphones and software solutions such as ERP, BDE, PSS. Industrial Internet of Things therefore does not necessarily mean that solutions have to be connected to the Internet. It’s about network technology that makes everything combinable. This way, your systems can be controlled securely and  completely independent.

IIoT Potential 2: Conclusions from data

A simple sensor, which counts the number of units produced on a system, provides even more information in the IIoT. Combined with order data from the ERP system, you receive production speed per item, production capacity per item, running time, downtimes, set-up times. You can receive notifications about events such as downtimes, completion or delays. For example, via a display on the machine, on the smartphone, tablet or PC.

IIoT Potential 3: Cloud

Secure transmission and aggregation of data in the cloud could offer many advantages: you can view live data from any plant from anywhere in the world. Your IT department saves on set up, operating and maintaining a highly available, secure hardware and software server infrastructure. Cloud services offer you sophisticated algorithms that enable predictive maintenance and classification based on your data. It is also possible to make your data available to other systems (such as solutions within the company, for suppliers or customers) in this way.
